Now retired, Jan Gross enjoyed teaching and researching all things French and Francophone at Grinnell College in Iowa. Although Midwestern at heart, Paris is her soul city and Béjaïa, Algeria has captured her heart. She treasures family, friends, and the authors she works with, and loves to share food, art, travels, and conversation with them. She offers her poems as gifts where she can say less and mean more. Beyond academic writing and translation, she now collaborates with a fellow poet on "Black, White, and Everything In/Between Us" chronicling a friendship marked by differences of age, career, and skin color.
