Waiting Out the Storm

by Howard Winn

predicted as a killer in all the
weather forecasts the hurricane
tears up leaving behind the
Caribbean waves under the
named tropical storm that
ruffles the fur of Florida as
a prediction of the violent
air of New York City where
cosmopolitan residents shrug
off one more disturbance
produced by a not very benign
Mother Nature who is more
often a wicked stepmother
right out of the dark side of
the fairy tales hidden from
our naïve human offspring
